We all love people saying nice things about us.
What others say about you and your business is far more powerful than any claims that you may make yourself. For businesses of any size and in any sector the opportunities to obtain independent positive comment is easy – if you know what you are doing.
A case in point
A client that is a design and print company in Woking passed on an email about the Eagle Radio Biz awards 2017, with a comment: “What do you think?” We looked at the categories and Customer Focus was the obvious one as we had done work with their clients the previous Autumn. Using the testimonials from that project and other resources, we prepared and entered the submission on their behalf. The entry was shortlsted, and although it did not win, provided business development opportunities to engage with other businesses in the same category as well as PR benefits too.
Finding an opportunity to enter a business award is not difficult. There’s a trick to understanding how entries will be judged, which category is right for you and that’s before you begin drafting the entry. There’s a real skill to a well presented awards entry: structure; tone; language; illustrations and overall presentation. Some awards have a meeting to judge and we are skilled in preparing people ahead of these events. A rushed or ill thought through submission stands out for all of the wrong reasons. On the other hand, when done well can bring real benefits including a great feeling amongst those who work for you.
Some sectors, law for example, have annual guides published that provide an overview of the market and rank law firms relative to each other. It can be a stark reminder of how competitive it is when a rival business is listed ahead of you when you know full well their track record is not a patch on your own. If you are in a market where direct comparisons are made public, we can advise to help make sure you are suitably represented. #
