Coronavirus is a serious and real problem. Above all it is a threat at a human level and one that is a major preoccupation for many of us when we think about our families and our businesses.
It’s also a temporary problem and one that will be overcome given time. As the government said in the budget (11 March) “…it will be tough, but we will recover”.
A challenge for business owners is how to communicate their company’s position regarding coronavirus and any associated concerns/issues, without appearing crass or opportunist.
If you’re a business owner needing to get across a coronavirus-related message, but struggling for the right words, we can help. We have worked with clients to suitably express the following:
- The performance of financial investments following coronavirus and the oil price fall and importance of keeping a long-term investment view.
- How overseas property purchases can proceed even if a buyer is unhappy travelling to the country to complete the purchase paperwork themselves.
- How a responsible employer should communicate with staff regarding the evolving threat of the virus.
- Whether an external event should be cancelled, or should go ahead, given the facts known at a particular point in time.
We can make sure that the tone of drafting is appropriate for the statement and the wider state-of-play at a moment in time. We can also advise if you need to make further direct comments to the media.
